Failed Senate candidate Robert Francis O'Rourke said in an interview with The Washington Post that the "principles" of the United States Constitution aren't relevant today.
O'Rourke said he had hope for the United States but is suspicious that the United States is not capable of implementing change. The Washington Post reporter asked if it was a "hope" or a "suspicion." O'Rourke rephrased the question, saying, "Does this still work?" "Can an empire like ours, with a military presence in over 170 countries around the globe, with trading relationships . . . and security agreements in every continent, can it still be managed by the same principles that were set down 230-plus years ago?” he questioned. O'Rourke added, "This may make it difficult to take any future oath of office to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.’"
