President Donald Trump's new budget will cut spending, seek money for a border wall at the southern border, and set up a "fiscal path" for the United States, according to The Washington Post.
Trump is continuing to fulfill his promise to build the wall. This comes after Trump declared a national emergency at the border that allows him access to $8.1 billion to build the wall on the southern border. The current national debt is $22 trillion. Trump's plan will help the issue by cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamp benefits. "Time and again, Congress has ignored presidential cost-saving recommendations and plowed ahead with irresponsible budgets that increase both spending and the size of government. This needs to stop," White House budget director Russell T. Vought wrote in Real Clear Politics. "It is time for Congress to join the president in his commitment to cutting spending," he added.
