The Senate has approved a $147 billion spending bill Wednesday afternoon to fund the legislative branch, the Energy Department, and the veterans' programs. The bill is one of three spending packages Congress plans to approve this month to steer clear of a government shutdown when the new budget starts Oct. 1.
The bill was passed with a measure, meaning a compromise between the House and Senate negotiators, approved 92-5. The House will vote on the bill Thursday. If the bill is approved by both chambers and signed by President Donald Trump, the bill would represent 90% of annual spending.
