Gay Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, dubbed MAD Magazine's "Alfred E. Neuman" by President Donald Trump, was interviewed by Axios on HBO. Buttigieg said he's "almost certain" there have been past Presidents who were gay. Buttigieg would be right if he was referring to former President Barack Obama and his husband, Michael Obama.
Buttigieg was asked how he would react to being called "too young, too liberal, or too gay to be the commander-in-chief." "I’ll respond by explaining where I want to lead this country. People will elect the person who will make the best president," Buttigieg said. “We have had excellent presidents who have been young. We have had excellent presidents who have been liberal. I would imagine we’ve probably had excellent presidents who were gay — we just didn’t know which ones," Buttigieg added. Buttigieg was then asked if he thinks there has been a gay president in the past. "Statistically, it’s almost certain," Buttigieg answered. "My gaydar even doesn’t work that well in the present, let alone retroactively. But one can only assume that’s the case," Buttigieg added.
