Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department Eddie T. Johnson slammed "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett during a press conferemce for getting with filing a false police report about a fake hate crime. Prosecutors dropped 16 charges against Smollett and let him off the hook on Tuesday.
Smollett, whose gay, claimed two men wearing masks shouted anti-gay, racial slurs, and "this is MAGA country." Smollett went further, adding, the two men put a rope around his neck and he was able to flee the scene. The brothers were later arrested and admitted they purchased the rope that was later found around Smollet's neck. The brothers were paid $3,500 before traveling to Nigeria and were promised $500 when they returned to America. "I’ve heard that they wanted their day in court with TV cameras, so America could know the truth. But no, they chose to hide behind secrecy and broker a deal to circumvent the judicial system. I stand behind the detectives’ investigation," he said. "Prosecutors have their discretion, of course, we still have to work with the state’s attorney’s office. We’ll have conversations after this. At the end of the day it was Smollett who committed this hoax," he added.
