“Martin Luther King Jr. would have encouraged every responsible human being to march for justice, to march for peace, and most of all, to march for the impeachment of Donald Trump,” Maxine Waters tweeted.
However, MLK’s own niece Alveda King made comments over the weekend that completely reject Waters’ unfounded remarks. “Racism is just a word that is being bandied about and thrown… at the president unjustly,” said King on Saturday. “President Trump is not a racist.”
King continued saying it is “outrageous to call a man a racist who continues to acknowledge the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Reverend. Martin Luther King, my uncle, in a positive way and he puts his money where his mouth is, he puts his energy behind it.” King has made supportive comments about Trump in the past, calling him “compassionate” and a “brilliant man.”
