Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told a crowd at the Texas Tribune's Tribune Fest on Saturday it "doesn't matter" if an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump costs the Democrats the House majority.
"It doesn’t matter. Our first responsibility is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," Pelosi said. "People say you have to take a political risk doing that. That doesn’t matter. Because we cannot have a president of the United States undermining his oath of office, his loyalty to his oath of office, undermining our national security, and undermining the integrity of our elections," she added. Pelosi launched an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump on Tuesday due to a phone call between Trump and the newly elected Ukrainian President about corrupt 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son's ties to Ukraine. "Today I'm announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry," Pelosi said. "This week, the president has admitted to asking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically," Pelosi added. "The actions of the Trump presidency revealed dishonorable facts of the president's betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections," Trump continued.
