President Donald Trump's administration will request $8.6 billion for the construction of a border wall at the southern border.
A former administration confirmed the amount off of money that will "be used to build or replace roughly 700 miles of barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border," The Hill reports. According to Reuters, the administration plans to use 3.6 billion from the military construction budget at the Pentagon and $5 billion from the Department of Homeland Security budget. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader said in a statement, "resident Trump hurt millions of Americans and caused widespread chaos when he recklessly shut down the government to try to get his expensive and ineffective wall, which he promised would be paid for by Mexico." "Congress refused to fund his wall and he was forced to admit defeat and reopen the government. The same thing will repeat itself if he tries this again. We hope he learned his lesson," Pelosi and Schumer added.
