Trump To Declare A National Emergency In The 'Next Few Days'

President Donald Trump spoke to Fox's Sean Hannity while at the southern border on Thursday. Hannity asked Trump about a national emergency.

"You said early today that you're very likely going to declare a national emergency. How soon would that happen," Hannity asked.

"No, if we don't make a deal with Congress, most likely I will do that. I would actually say I would. I can't imagine any reason why not. Because I'm allowed to it, the law is 100 percent on my side," Trump said.

"So if we can't make a deal with Congress, and we should be able to make a deal with Congress. If you look, Democrats in Congress, especially the new ones coming in are starting to say, 'Wait a minute, we can't win this battle with Trump,'" Trump added.

"Because of the fact, it is common sense. How can we say a wall doesn't work," Trump said.

"What are the options though? The Pentagon also has the funds available that would be able to help support the building of the wall," Hannity asked.

"If we don't make a deal with Congress, which we should be able to, really just common sense and there is some compromise needed. And look, they know that the walls work," Trump responded.

"Last question, timeline before you think you have to go that route and declare a national emergency," Hannity questioned.

"Well, I'm going to see what happens over the next few days," Trump said.

On Wednesday, while participating in a signing ceremony for anti-Human trafficking legislation, President Donald Trump said he might declare a national emergency on Wednesday afternoon.
"Mr. President, what is your current thinking on a national emergency? Why didn't you announce it last night and when might you," A report questioned.

"Because, I think we might work a deal and if we don't, I may go that route," Trump said. "I have the absolute right to do a national emergency if I want," Trump added.

"What's your threshold," The reporter asked.

"My threshold will be if I can't make a deal with people that are unreasonable," Trump said.

President Trump has mentioned the national emergency option many times over  the past weeks.  If Trump does declare a national emergency, he would be able to fund the wall without Congress being involved.

Two officials from the Pentagon said they have $1-2 billion that could be given to the wall. Not only that, there are $13 billion in obligated funds from prior years that haven't been spent that could also be used to fund the wall.

"We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it," Trump said. "We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it," Trump added.
